I somehow only saw this for the first time in 2025. I loved the style and the music, and I thought the performances were great. And the zombies were genuinely scary. Really liked this all around.
It's crazy this was made in 1979. There's only two shots that don't look amazing: the ship explosion, and the full body alien at the end. Otherwise everything looks absolutely incredible, and it's genuinely scary.
Overall, not too good. The makeup in the second short was freaking awesome, and the last short was really well done, and scary, but otherwise, the effects and acting were pretty bad.
I mean, the transformation scene. Come on. So good. And the makeup on dead Jack, holy cow. Amazing! Overall I really enjoyed the tone. It was funnier than I expected.Â
Very appreciative of the practical effects. Not the most interesting movie, but a solid sequel, and the weird Tim Burton aesthetic actually feels very genuine in a way that modern movies usually don't.
This thing gets pretty bonkers. I do really like the concept of the first movie being a movie in this universe.Â
This was fantastic. Very unsettling, and the gore is some of the most disturbing I've ever seen, but really well done, and very effective. It's a tough one, but it's worth it.
I can't really even think of anything good to say about it. Just kinda dumb. Not the least bit scary. Totally flat, uninteresting characters, and terrible music.
I loved the switchup in style from Curse, and Fiona Douriff again is fantastic. Great kills, and fun to see multiple Chuky's. The schizophrenia stigma makes me a bit uncomfortable, and though I guess it's reflective of how people treat it in real life, it'd be nice to see some more commentary on it.
Overall, pretty good, though nothing incredible. Fiona Dourif was fantastic. But what the hell was with Chucky's face?
I'm shocked at how much I actually enjoyed this. The main character seemed so annoying when I first got a glimpse of this, and he kind of is, but I'm surprised at how much he grew on me and how well it actually worked.Â
The setup, while gimmicky, is pretty good: scary shit happening in a stuck elevator. There were some moments of good suspense, but pretty dull overall.
In general, not a fantastic movie, and pretty dated, but all things considered, a pretty dang good sequel, and learning that the outrageous kills were mostly done practically definitaly adds a level of appreciation.
I'm still impressed with how good some of the convoluted kill setups look, but this was a very "meh" movie.
A huge improvement from 4, but I still thought this one was pretty lame. Let's hope Bloodlines bucks the trend!
This was a much better movie in general than all of the previous sequels for sure. Tying things back to the first and others was nice, and of course Tony Todd was a delight (rest in peace). Found myself a little unconvinced and retreading old plots a bit, but all of the death sequences were pretty great.
Surprisingly good
It is a classic, and the effects are surprisingly good. I kinda like that the killer has almost a reverse Psycho thing going on.
This movie is definitely much better in quality than the first, but much less iconic, so even though the characters, pace, and cinematography are better, this one scores a little lower for me.
This gets two stars for introducing Jason's iconic hockey mask, and for 3D laughs, but otherwise this is such a bland retread of the the first movie. There's nothing new here (except the mask) to enjoy, and the characters are mostly uninteresting. Oh yeah, one of those stars is for the funky intro song.
I guess this was a slightly better movie overall, but still nothing amazing. Just kinda eh. Even though it doesn't make any sense, Jason turning into a zombie is pretty great, and feels like Jason entering his final form—the one I was familiar with even before seeing the movies, and it took 6 movies to get there!
This one is an improvement because it's more fun, and more Jason, but the whole Carrie character? It's bonkers. Bonkers is at home in this franchise though, so I don't outright hate it, but like, why?
Pretty unbelievably bad. Nothing about this movie is good. Okay, 5 seconds of Jason in Times Square. That's it. Bad kills. Bad story. Bad characters. And this movie finally decides they absolutely don't care about ANYTHING making sense.
Uhhh, what? It's pretty bad. And like, what the hell is going on? Why does Tommy seem like he's ripped and training to defend himself from Jason only to stand there and do nothing while Jason attacks him? A few way cooler characters, and still plenty of lame and forgettable ones. Some cool shots, and some good gore.Â
Just a little better than the last one, but still not great. This is the most strict-to-the-formula franchise I've watched.
Loved it. Great style, great attitude, and so 90's! It's a movie about getting your period, and becoming a woman, but via a warewolf story. The warewolf effects are the worst part of it for sure, but I haven't seen any movie pull that off before decent cgi was around.
Pretty bad. (Spoiler) I guess it was clever to have a third killer we didn't know revealed first, but the other two were easy to spot, and it was just pretty bad. I get that it was supposed to be like a cheesy Romcom plus a horror, but it just wasn't that interesting. It felt like a bad Scream ripoff.
I can't stop loving the music, and the general imagery, but this movie mostly kinda sucks. Some great effects (and plenty of bad ones), and some likable characters, but too much wtf to love as a whole.
It's a teen slasher from the 90's, so it's got its flaws, but it's pretty fun, and genuinely had me guessing. I didn't love the reveal, but eh, it did what it was supposed to do pretty well.
I really dug it! Such a fun watch, and amazing villain. Several twists that totally got me, and beautifully shot! Definitely my favorite of the influencer subgenre so far.
I enjoyed the campiness, and there was some delightful shots, but overall this one is kind of just a novelty for its time and budget, but not too special beyond that.
I loved it! The sound was either bad, or just bad in the version I streamed, but it was fun, it was creepy, it was 70's, and it had some fantastic effects.
Wow, this was bad. It gets one knife for Viggo Mortensen, and one for Ken Foree, otherwise this movie is pretty terrible. Why was this made? I don't know. I feel nothing for this Leatherface. It's not scary like the first, and it's not fun and over the top like the second. It's nothing.
It's fantastic. Beautiful shots, incredible music and sound, and a lovely, spacey feel. Loved the performances too, even Brian Cox as Lecter, which is wild considering just how much I love, and how ingrained in my brain Sir Anthony Hopkins is as that character. I also didn't realize that 2002's Red Dragon was essentially a full remake. This is way better.
One of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. Bill Skarsgård was phenomenal as Count Orlock, and the whole thing was genuinely eerie and unsettling. Super metal. Really enjoyed it.
Great cast, very entertaining, and effectively unsettling, but like, still in a fun way.
A little (really, just a little) more fleshed out than the first, but also a little less punk rock, which was part of the charm of the first. I loved Reggie for some reason, and all of the weirdest parts were the best parts. Also loved that hair pull at the end.
It's pretty hard to come up with a new and original take on anything under the Horror umbrella, but this sure is that. A bit on the dull side, but very sweet and still compelling.
I'm shocked at how much I enjoyed a shot-for-shot remake of such a pivotal classic. I feel like I should hate this on principal alone, but I actually loved it. I knew every beat because I've seen the original so many times, but I still loved it. Fantastic cinemetography, and how does Vince Vaughan work so well as Norman Bates? I don't know! But he does!
I felt thoroughly disgusted and queasy at several points, and there is practically zero gore in the whole movie. Very effectively unsettling, and the main character is disturbing, fascinating, and very well acted. I really dug this one.
Holy shit. So. Good. The cinematography, the music, the acting, the whole freaking thing. Everything was fantastic. Absolutely loved it. I used to tell myself I wasn't really into vampire movies, but here I am again, feeling like a vampire movie I just watched was absolutely fantastic. Just watch it.
Wow. One of the scarier movies I've seen in a while. Great acting, very effective (and not cheap) jump scares, and some really cool scenes. It really had me jumpy. Loved it.
Loved it. Cheesy? Yep. Dated? Oh yeah. But it hits all the notes. Funny, entertaining, poignant, and too relevant for a 30-year-old movie. I guess it doesn't really hit the scary note, but still really enjoyed it.
Really dang solid. I was very surprised this was the filmmakers' first movie. It was really well done, a bit disturbing, and kind of a bummer, but done so well, and a great concept.Â
Great movie! This could have easily felt like a silly movie full of old takes on tropes and stereotypes, but it's genuinely funny the whole way through, has a fantastic cast with great characters, and some genuine suspense. I did clock the killer nearly immediately, but it really didn't take anything away from it.Â
Holy shit, Brad Dourif's performance was amazing. Love the tone, and that jump scare...fantastic!Â
Dear god this was awful. Unless you feel some silly need to complete the franchise, like I do, don't waste your time.
Loved it. Moody hunky 80's vampire teens. The worst thing about this movie is Corey Feldman.
Definitely very funny, and I generally really liked the whole thing, but where it falls short for me are the effects for a lot of the deaths. They just looked digital and sloppy. They were super over the top, but I think that actually plays better when done practically, even when you can see the seams.
Over-the-top and campy in all of the right ways. From super silly, to surprisingly impressive, the effects in this are wonderful, and the cast of characters feels like an R-rated Goonies adventure.
This was truly one of the worst movies I've ever seen. And not like, entertaining bad. Just bad. So so bad. How did we stray so far away from the masterpiece of TCM? Parts of it felt like a David Lynch movie, but makes you realize that he can get away with things seemingly making no sense because it's done so well. This made no sense, and was done soooo poorly.
I appreciate it for its significance in the genre, and really enjoyed elements of it, but dang this movie's rough. Still, love Toxie, the sweetness, and of course a good vigilante in probably the shittiest city I've ever seen depicted.Â
Just okay overall. The wraparound was kind of lame. I liked elements of a few of the segments, but Ut Supra Sic Infra was definitely the one I liked the most.
I very much enjoyed this for Debbie Harry, and for the bonkers effects. Seriously, how did they do the stomach thing? The movie as a whole, was just okay.
I thought this was super original, and very compelling in just about every way. A few great scares, creepy, and also down right funny at times. Excellent acting, excellent score. Loved it.
Daaaaamn, that possessed guy. This was eerie, thoroughly disturbing at times, and generally very interesting. Not the strongest ending, but overall a really great movie.
I loved all of the cameos, and Andrew Divoff was fantastic, but that's about it for what I liked. Otherwise it was kinda lame, very cheesy, and very dated in a bad way.
Just bad. Still love Andrew Divoff, but this was just bad. It made no sense, and many of the kills were super lame. Oh, and it had essentially the exact same ending as the first. I guess most franchise horror movies do, but this feels worse somehow.Â
