Matt's notes on Black Phone 2:

I think I liked this more than the first one. Still a little hokey, and two characters were set up so obviously to be safe fodder for The Grabber, but scarier overall, and stylisticly fun at times.

Matt's notes on Bugonia:

I really enjoyed it! The whole time it had me wondering something, which...resolved at the end in a pretty satisfying way. Great performances by the leads, too!

Matt's notes on Creep 2:

I think I liked this one more than the first? I think I like Creep, but I don't think I love it? Lots of mixed feelings clearly, haha.

Matt's notes on Drop:

It was fine for what it was. Definitely suspenseful, but ultimately, I didn't care a whole lot about who the mystery person was or why they were doing it.

Matt's notes on Five Nights at Freddy's 2:

This was not a movie I was looking to watch, but it was available on a roku at a rental when I wasn't feeling well, so there ya go. It was bad. Really bad. Impressively much worse than the first. If you're not a teen superfan of FNAF, you're not going to like this movie.

Matt's notes on Frankenstein (2025):

The sets were incredible, the acting was great, but it was just a bit too romantic for my taste. I think I went into it thinking "horror", but if you go into it thinking "period drama" you'll have a better time.

Matt's notes on Happy Death Day:

This was far from my favorite movie, but for what it was trying to be, I think it totally nailed it.

Matt's notes on Happy Death Day 2U:

The first one was decent at genre mixing, but still felt arguably like a PG-13 horror movieβ€”this movie isn't really horror at all. I guess I'm even adding it here just because it's a sequel.Β

Matt's notes on Ice Cream Man:

I appreciate it for it's b movie charm (and low quality), but it's one of those movies that's in that weird in between of so bad it's good, and just regular good, so it mostly just feels bad. I dunno. You should still watch it.

Matt's notes on Leprechaun:

What is this movie even? Definitely a so bad it's funny kind of watch. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall when they were writing it, cause if they started with "a leprachaun horror movie," I just have no idea how they could have ended up with what they wrote.Β

Matt's notes on Milk & Serial:

This was surprisingly good. For the first half, I thought it was pretty lame, and it was a setup. The payoff was great.

Matt's notes on Misery:

Fantastic.

Matt's notes on Obsession:

Holy shit. I thought this was fantastic. I don't know the last time I was that anxious or on edge watching a movie. The fear and dread I felt over the visual horror (like jump scares, visuals, gore) was probably equal to what I felt with some of the scenarios or subtext. It was unlike anything I've seen. Visually it was also beautiful. An instant classic.

Matt's notes on Primate:

I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed this. There's not much too it, and the characters are pretty bland, but some fun setups and gnarly gore.

Matt's notes on Psycho III:

This was pretty awful. Anthony Perkins is really great as Bates, again, but otherwise everything is either just plain bad or a tired retreadding of the original.

Matt's notes on Ready or Not: Here I come:

Another fun ride! I think I may have liked this one even more than the first. The sister thread felt a bit forced, but a great cast, and some very memorable moments.

Matt's notes on Scary Movie:

It hasn't aged well, but some elements are still pretty good and genuinely funny.Β

Matt's notes on Scary Movie 2:

Anna Faris and Regina Hall are hilarious, and definitely the best part of these movies (so far), but otherwise this was pretty bland.

Matt's notes on Shelby Oaks:

Parts of the movie were genuinely eerie, and had my heart racing, so it was effective at doing what few horror movies actually do to me, and it's one of the feelings I'm chasing when watching these things. But the overall story, villian, and ending were all kind of lacking for my taste. Still a pretty good horror movie.

Matt's notes on The Rocky Horror Picture Show:

I'm not crazy for musicals, but I can see why this is such a cultural milestone and such an important piece of art for so many people. Weirdos unite!

Matt's notes on Widow's Bay Season 1:

I really enjoyed it! Fun, super funny, and a few times it was genuinely creepy. Clearly, some horror fans were behind this, too.
